About

The yeoman prefers that his real name is not overly used online but he considers WiserEarth one of the most trust-worthy sites online to date. (so it’s cool to call him Charley or CQ.) – Wikipedia:User:CQ

He is a songster from the low-lands of western Kentucky and Tennessee. An artist and musician with a keen interest in Internet phenomenology and computational sociology. He is a licensed master electrician and apprentice gardener, and avid proponent of freedom .. as in free speech for all who have something to say and as in free beer (or software) for all who want some.

Since the 1970s, He is a practitioner of holistic non-violence in alignment with groups like the American Friends Service Committee, The Womens International League for Peace and Freedom and the International Mobilization for Survival.

The “R” word: Raised in a Southern Baptist home, little Charley went down to the altar at the age of 7, answering Brother Richardson, “I felt it.” when the imposing 6+foot-tall, fire and brimstone preacher asked why he’d come down front for an adults-only alter-call. He left church at 13 and didn’t look back until 1977 when he developed a strong bond with The Book of Revelation.

By that time, he had graduated from high and entered the electronics field as a technologist of digital subsystems and interfaces. Familiar with tube-type electronics he worked with legacy aircraft simulators and learned the value of a chopper-stabilized operational amplifier and a phase-locked loop. Mostly a “hardware guy” by trade, Quinton went on to breadboard (build by hand) one of the first single-board computer prototypes incorporating the x86 architecture (Intel 8086). It worked right off the bench, but Chapter 13 made him uneasy about the work he was doing, so he quit the electronics field and moved into a commune.

And here he is – live – the re-reborn Mr. Charley Quinton – Your All-American Friend

Not about me

I’m a believer who really wants to plan and build an ecovillage on Clanton Creek in Western Kentucky. I’ll need some help!

I’ve spent a lot of time as a Homeless person in New Orleans, Memphis, St Louis and other cities in the US Central Time Zone. My vision is to start a eco-friendly bus service for urban refugees that doubles as a worker shuttle and a transport for goods and produce from area ecofarms and villages up and down the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

Watershed health and keyline design

I’m extremely interested in the river and tributary system and I advocate Keyline Design as a means to improve watershed health and to build soil without chemical fertilizers. This has to be done at the headwaters and on the ridges. The hypoxic zone is an ecological disaster that could have been avoided and must be repaired.

I write a little. See Keyline Design Principles and my blog at Bioneers.org for a slice.

Computing and Internet

I am the founder of the WiserEarth Linux User Group and Maps Music Memes and Much More groups.

Welcome to WiserEarth! I am the general manager of the OpenKollab business incubator and very excited about all that’s going on here at WE. If you happen onto this user page it is probably because the WiserAPI linked us via context. I am a student of the context switch and profess some familiarity with computing and communications systems.

If you have help, advice or encouragement, phase me, below in the Comments section.

Thanks for the comments. Sorry to not respond earlier. I am a cell in a bigger animal but the path will become clear–J

Dear Charley,

Would You be interested in a “wordless Prayer for Peace”, which everybody can carry out freel?,

It is a daily, silent prayer, expressed in “the speech of the body and in gestures”, so that it is suited to all human beings on Earth.

Warmly

tomasz

Thanks for reaching out–I’m already inspired by you and others connected to WiserEarth.

Best of luck on the eco-village, sounds like a great project. Maybe some Gaia University folks will want to help out? It will be nice to hear how it is going.

Thank you for the invitation to the linux users group i am not a linux user and in fact have tried it and find it cumbersome and difficult to keep up with. I did systems programming work for years and have no desire to innovate any more, i just use these infernal machines for communication. peace and light michael

Charley, Can you send me an invite to join your homeless group? I blog about homelessness and hunger issues fro Daily Kos and I’d like to contribute to this work…

Hi Charley. Thanks for the heads up on the WiserEarth@Wikia page.

Having watched the movie “HOME” by Yann Arthus Bertrand, it’s interesting to reflect that we’ve managed to create a society in which someone can be ‘homeless’ / ‘landless’. It’s also interesting to see that you’ve managed to be so aware of the important issues when so many people living in the comfort of their ‘homes’ can be so ignorant.

Keep up the good work!
~Bowo
