About

Hello all,

Last February I graduated from Middlebury College  with BA in English Lit major and a Spanish minor. That spring and summer I worked in New Orleans as the leader of 15-person high school volunteer groups who helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity in the 9th Ward. While there, I helped plan the New Orleans StepItIp2007 climate rally on April 14 (in the picture, I am part of the letter "U"). New Orleans is a fascinating place that excites and repulses at the same time.

Over the years, my passion for the natural world has grown and led me to organize an anthology for environmental writer Bill McKibben fall '06, to intern at the Earth Island Journal in San Francisco summer '06 and to write a 20-page report  on environmental activisim on Vermont college campuses spring '06. When I grow up I want to be an environmental writer just like Bill McKibben and Paul Hawken!

In the near future I will help plan and plant a 5-acre wildlife habitat in the heart of the Central Valley on the family farm where I grew up. When I start to miss homework as a daily reality, I will return to school to earn a degree in an undetermined environmental field.

Randomness:
I've been a vegetarian since I was born and grew up riding horses on a a small farm near the Sacramento River

We had a pet cow named Bob (almost went in the Guinness book of world records for largest specimen) and a pet turkey named Ernie. Sadly, they've both passed.

My childhood horse, Blubelle (she's retired), nickers to me again when I come outside. When I went away to college she stopped talking to me for a while. I think she felt abandoned, but luckily we've worked things out.

I checked out that link you sent.  Finally solar panels are being put in the right places.  Thanks for sending me this.  I am going to have to visit this project sometime.

Hi,

I just started this permaculture class in Santa Cruz. EarthFlow Designs/Larry Santoyo runs the show and I like it so far. We just had our first class today and I am already glad that I signed up. How are things way up yonder?

Hey Zoey!!!
I'm on!! I gotta go do some things around the house but I'll definitely come back to fill in my profile in detail and start networking! I sent my other friends that aren't on here already invites too. Blubelle is really beautiful! You are so lucky to have your own horse! I love them! You have to give me riding lessons sometime! haha ;)
Keep in touch!

Being a kid growing up in the capital city, I always wondered how it would be like to grow up in the countryside. Last Eid (the last day of Ramadhan fasting month. I'm a moslem), on our big family's gathering event, I had the opportunity to taste a little bit of that kind of life. We gathered at my aunt's place where rice fields spread far in the mountain backdrop.

In the morning, with my uncle and my cousin, we walk for miles through the rice fields listening to birds chirping and watching them play in the air, we talked to farmers on their produce and financial situations, and I notice that, people on the countryside have indeed that quality of smile and hospitality that many city folks have forgotten.

One memory I will treasure from that short walk, was my first swim in a river!!! :))
Always wanted to do that. I discovered that though the water was not clear, it was easy on the eyes, unlike the clear water of swimming pools wich irritate my eyes. During the swim, my uncle went so far as telling me an ancient story from our tribe, the Javanese, much like the way Indians tell stories to their children.

I wish the landscape of the countryside throughout the world be kept in their pristine condition as a home, a refuge, and a source of inspiration for generations to come.

I have to say, Bluebelle is a beauty. Glad to hear you've made up with her :)
Nice to know you Zoey.
