About

I am a freelance change agent, allied with various groups in Seattle. Some of my interests and projects are:

Open-source Currencies:

I am a currency geek, always seeking ways to roll creative new metrics systems into projects that are tight on funding. I currently use Twollars, a twitter-based currency for recognizing "in kind" contributions to the public good. My twitter name is yodelheck. I am also keen to contribute deeply to the MetaCurrency project and their Open-Source Currency platform.

Art & Culture as "Marketing" for a Sustainable Lifestyle:

The progressive ethic can be articulated through an artistic aesthetic. Art, music and cultural events enrich our lives, and participation in creative endeavors empowers us to think as Active Producers rather than passive consumers.

All art and graphics on this page are my creations (except for The Flaming Eggplant Cafe logo, which is Taiana Geifer's design with my digital remixing).

EcoCities:

I have begun communication with parties interested in establishing some form of "Sustainability Center" in Seattle. The long-term vision could be to develop a campus, cluster or neighborhood which would be a model of urban sustainability and innovation. Please contact me if your organization might like to collaborate toward this vision!

Green Economy:

I co-founded a local, organic cafe at my college called

The Flaming Eggplant Cafe. (http://academic.evergreen.edu/groups/flamingeggplant/)

I am also allied with Puget Sound Community Change, a loyalty system to support local, sustainable businesses in Seattle and eventually all of Puget Sound.

Bio:

I am a recent graduate of The Evergreen State College, having primarily studied ecological agriculture, sustainable design, and green business theory.
I was on student government, and involved in the redesign project of the student union building at Evergreen. (I was on the school's design committee and interned with the project architect.)

I've also done a NOLS semester, and have spent plenty of time in the wilderness in northern Canada and the Kimberly region of Western Australia. I have also interned at Sirius Community, a beautiful ecovillage in Massachusetts.

I'm originally from New Haven, CT.

Some design work for The Flaming Eggplant Cafe, our student-run cafe.

Hey Jay,

Good to find out about Meta Currency. I wonder how it differs with Open Money? Or are they similar, even perhaps initiated by the same folks?

Thanks!

Bowo

Hey Jay,

Hope your day's great and your many projects are going well!

I just received an email of a wishlist for a friend who's starting an urban farm and one of the requests was woodchips that are specific for growing mushrooms.  http://urbanfarmproject.org/?p=21 if you want to check it out.

If you have access to this or can facilitate some sort of communication between a person who would have wood chips and  either myself or the wishlist contact, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Krista

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jay, for sharing your amazing energy, thoughtfulness, resourcefulness, and ideas with the Interra Project and the Community Card program.  Your presence was invaluable.  We were really lucky to have you on our team for the adventure that was the first ever Seattle Green Festival.

Be well,

Krista
