Will McClatchey grew up on the White Mountain Reservation in Arizona before his family moved to Oregon where he completed High School then College at Oregon State University earning B.S. degrees in Anthropology and Pharmacy. He worked as a community and consultant pharmacist for ten years during which time he earned an M.S. in Ethnobotany from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in Botany (Evolutionary Biology) from the University of Florida. He is currently Professor of Botany at the University of Hawaii. His research addresses hypotheses about the evolution of patterns of human interactions with plants and ecosystems. While his past research was largely conducted in the South and Western Pacific region his current research is taking place in S.E. Asia where he is studying relationships between distribution patterns of human knowledge of biodiversity and actual biodiversity.

Aloha-Will , How is Val ? Suda and I sent our regards. Sorry I did not get to SEB meetings either one New Orleans or Charleston-Are you going to attend APS meeting in Hawai'i ? Sorry I won't make that one either this year I had to use all my vacation-but I will make ASP-PSNA meeting in Tampa next year. Listen I met a doctoral student at the NIH-ODS practicum from Univ of Hawai'i who is working out of Chemistry dept. and Cancer Ctr. on marine plants-(natural product chemistry )I told him to look you up to see the medical ethnobotany approach- his name is Alejando I will send you his info.I am going back to Thailand in Jan. to connect with Pharmacy schools-right now it looks like 1or 2 this trip Mahidol Univ. and possibly Chulalongkorn Univ they both have amazing Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany depts.Are you affliated with the Univ of Hawai'i- School of Pharmacy at all?
