About

WatSan ("Water & Sanitation") advising is an activity of WatSan Consult, an independent Development Networking Organization based in the Netherlands with a focus on sustainability and best practices in Water and Sanitation (WatSan) Projects.
We advise on how to arrive at realistic and sustainable Water & Sanitation services in developing countries, with a focus on handpumps in Africa, in all activities during the Project Cycle, from project proposals to procurement, human resources management, backstopping and project evaluations.

The director Paul van Beers holds a M.Sc. in Environmental Hydrology & Hydrogeology and has a vast international professional background of over 27 years in research, implementation, consultancies and project management in Water Supply, Hydrology and Environment in many African countries, (long term assigments in Burkina Faso, Mauretania, Mozambique, Kenya, Angola, Portugal and The Netherlands, as well as numerous missions and studies in Benin, Chad, Niger, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa, Namibia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Brazil and Oman. He is a member of the Dutch NEDWORC ''Consultants for Development Foundation'' and a founding board member of  Global Rainwater Harvesting Collective and has worked for Universities, Consultancy firms, The World Bank and National and International NGOs. From 2002 to 2004 he was the director of the successful Dutch financed Rural Water Development (RWD) Project in Western Kenya, one of the largest water projects in Kenya, that provided since 1985 over 1.500 water points (dug wells, boreholes, rainwater harvesting systems and spring protections) and about 16.000 sanitation slabs. During this time, he developed with the RWD staff the Kisii water filter and the concept of the spare part free Afripump, that is now in production with Jansen Venneboer in The Netherlands.
