About

I am Mel Lone Hill, a member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe, Pine Ridge Reservation.  My primary language is Lakota and I am deeply appreciative of the learning provided by my grandparents and the life I have as a Lakota common man.  For many years our people have suffered the oppression of government, religion and educational indoctrinations.  Yet, we are a strong people and even though we have many problems our hearts are still alive, proud to be Lakota and we believe in our way of life.

I am a horseman and experience the horse as a brother, just watch the family movie "Hildago" with Viggo Mortensen to experience the Lakota connection. I am a supporter of the spiritual sobriety rides in our community: Little Big Horn, Crazy Horse, Big Foot (Wounded Knee) Rides.  For the past 15 years I have been assisting the coordination of Little Big Horn Ride to Montana. It is a joy to see elders attend, families come together, support of the Northern Cheyenne tribe, and youth in our community to get back on their horses, and endure the experiences that honors our ancestors, practice our spiruality as a people, and celebrates our unity as a Lakota Nation.

I am interested in working with Lakota Youth and children in the world by sharing the experience of the horse and building a bridge in learning regarding the Lakota Paradigm that unites our world and peoples. We appreciate the WiserEarth Community commitment to indigenous 1st nation peoples, social justice, a global civil society, sustainability of the health and well being of all life and the earth.  WE look forward to being friends.

Come and join Maka Si Tomni Little Big Horn Victory Celebration on June 25th 2008 and experience "Peace Through Unity" as One People connecting the past, present and future!

Mel,
It is my intention to be there to support the ride this year. Will you contact me to let me know how I may assist you in your journey?
