About
Hi! I am a freelance writer/journalist and activist/community organizer who focuses on issues of social justice, sustainability, and travel. I write on urban
agriculture/food justice, local community issues, abuse of corporate
power, human rights, peace & militarism, and local/world travel. I strive to
place stories and issues within a broader context and to link the local
with the global. If you want to get a story out along these lines don't hesitate to contact me.
I write for a number of print and online sources, including
the new progressive new and community hub Oakland Local, Terrain Magazine, Green Options, MatadorChange,
and Ethical Traveler.
I also have 5+ experience teaching in the Humanities (Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Environmental Ethics, Comparative Religions, World History) at the college level and 2 years experience as a community organizer and activist for non-profits working on peace, social justice, and sustainability issues. I speak intermediate Spanish and have traveled to or lived in over 15 countries.
If you are so inclined come visit me over at my blogs Pull the Root, Travelin Bones, and Rumi and the Cholo.
I have experience in new media, web content, news, advocacy, people profiles, organizational profiles, travel guides, interviewing, editing and proofreading, fact sheets, and documentary film and book reviews.
I am also interested in collaborating on a project tentatively entitled "Another Possible World" which is an interactive Map/Database/Travel Guide/Resource Network/Education Tool. I envision it as Wiserearth meets Matador Travel and Change.org, having a threesome, and begetting Volunteer match, Freecycle, and Common Language Project. I am an idea and content guy and I want to collaborate with designers and programmers and others. Visually bold, content rich, crowd-sourced, and user-friendly.
