About me

Here's a bit about myself.

I graduated with a B. Sc. (honours) in Environmental Science from Kathmandu University in 2005, and have had tried my hands at different things to date. From creating watershed maps for a research project, to researching information for a knowledge portal (http://ekh.unep.org), to tutoring volunteers - GPS usage and water quality monitoring.

Each episode to date has been an equally rewarding experience and has taught me numerous skills.

I am interested in networking, youth empowerment and youth participation. My interests and fortes include mapping, cartography, GIS and the internet.

Land cover mapping, biodiversity mapping are of particular interests to me, which I hope to take up sometime in my postgraduate education.

On a personal note, I am a dabbler in the writing department and do let my musing flow in a blog, which I have relocated to http://utsavmaden.com.np

Climate Change is of interest to me (has been for quite some time now), but the fact that every Tom, Dick and Harry has his/her say in the omnipresent climate change issue, often misconstruing facts and blowings things out of proportions really irks me.

Of late, the recent fiascos with the CRU email hack, the Himalayan glacier fiasco has further damaged Climate science. Hoepfully, this will make the new report from the IPCC more resilient and resistant to climate sceptics.

Strange, I replied to Heather's (hlehman) comment earlier but it seems I may have not saved the comment.

anyways,

Great to link with you Heather. Looking forward to hear from you further on the intensive archive that you've mentioned.

Morning! I am glad to connect up with you - I do think that the more that like minded people get together and learn from one another that we can grow some real world change.

I like your blog, and I especially like the portal you linked to.  I have always wanted to see Kathmandu. So, in the meantime, I will listen in to what you are doing and feel connected.

I will make sure to add you to people who might be able to collaborate on a GIS intensive archive that I am trying to get funded. It is a paleomap of the change in watersheds across Asia, and it sounds like you are a knowledgeable asset! This is a project that has been hovering for a while, but if it moves I will get you some more info!

best,

heather
