About

Tom Viator is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, USA. He grew up in subtropical southern Louisiana in the heart of Acadiana, a name derived from the French Acadians who settled there from Nova Scotia, Canada after the mid 1700’s. Tom grew up during what was the early formative period of the social justice and environmental movements of the 60’s and 70’s. He received a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture at the University of Louisiana in 1980 and went on to co-manage a 10 acre vegetable farm in southern Louisiana (New Iberia) in the early 80’s. He continued his education and received a Masters in International Business Management at the American Graduate School of International Management in 1991 in Glendale, Arizona. Tom has lived overseas (Israel) and has traveled throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Russia, but currently favors the dry desert climate of the American southwest.

Lena Levoshko-Viator, born in Settlement Progress, Far East, Russia, worked in Russian television and radio for over 14 years, having received her journalism degree at Far Eastern National University in 1992 in Vladivostok, Russia. Before joining her husband in the US, she was head of the news service at Russian Radio (in Komsomolsk-na-Amure) the largest radio network in the world, broadcast daily in more than 1,100 cities in Russia and other territories and with a weekly audience of over 20 million people.

Tom and Lena own a niche publishing company based out of Phoenix, Arizona that focuses on children’s educational materials and calendaring products. They share and care for a community organic garden with friends in Phoenix. Entrepreneurs at heart, they continue to pursue social and economic development projects that are in agreement with their life philosophy and vision, and are interested in a variety of issues related to social, economic and environmental justice with particular emphasis on the media.

News Service Project

Tom and Lena's most recent endeavor is the
News Service Project, a group of visionary individuals dedicated to building a new international online news service that reflects the values and principles of the Environmental and Social Justice movements. Hi Tom,

Thanks for your comment on the About Us page. Good to know about how Paul Ray's book speaks the same subject as Paul Hawken's.

I was also wondering if we can quote your following comment on our testimonial page and other pages in the future? "Wiserearth.org is important work and true service to the unnumbered individuals out there who, having tuned in to the spirit of the age, now labor for the good of themselves and their neighbors the world over."

Thanks,
Bowo

HI Tom- welcome to the Hero Generation site - we just set it up recently with the aim of collaboratively developing the best slide show on sustainability we can possibly pull together. The site is there for people to add ideas and I guess we are specifically after key messages and information relating to sustainability - so please feel free to throw your thoughts into the ring.  We want a tool that is easily understood and easy for anyone to access given the great need to rapidly advance the broader communities understanding our current pickle and the thinking and practice we need to best address it.

Very best wishes

John
