350 is the red line for human beings, the most important number on the planet. The most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth.   But solutions exist. All around the world, a movement is building to take on the climate ...learn more

About

Why am I here?

Just read Paul Hawken's commencement speech at University of Portland and am inspired to use this site.

For almost 45 years I have been a documentary filmmaker.  As a college student I made my first (un remarkable)

film about the invasion of the Dominican Republic in 1965 by 16,000 American Marines to stop a socialist poet, Juan Bosch, from being elected president.  I was radicalized by the experience.  I apprenticed at Encyclopedia Britanica Films in the late 1960's.

Since then I have made and worked on 100's of films.  This year I completed WHY KERALA, GRAMPA? (87minutes).   Kerala has a population about the same as California.  It boasts extraordinary quality of life indicators;  93% literacy (male and female), Health care for all, free public education thru college for all, fair share food stores within walking distance in every village, town and city,  the list goes on but perhaps more remarkably this is all accomplished in an economy about 1/70th the size of California's.

WHY KERALA, GRAMPA can be viewed for 99 cents at  tchamberlinmovies.com.  LA VUELTA: A journey Back (78 minutes), is about life in a tiny village in the mountains of Guerrero, Mexico.  I met Manuel during a strike by farm workers in Oregon's Willamette Valley during the strawberry harvest.   We became friends and a year and 1/2 later Manuel invited me to return home with him for several months during Christmas. LA VUELTA was the result of that extraordinary trip, in a way, back in time.

I am here to use my limited but  practiced skills as a filmmaker to help make the world a fairer and more equal place for my grand daughter and all the children.

I am biased.

My life experience as a film maker (through the eye of the camera I have had the opportunity briefly to walk in the shoes of others) has given me pretty conclusive evidence that most people are quite decent most of the time.  Fear can make most of us crazy sometimes.  Those first black and white video images of earth broadcast from the weather satellite Tiros 1 on April Fool's day 1960 convince me there is no 'Other'.  We Are One!   Lastly, I don't know about evil but I do know there are preditors!

So what?

A new project.  Now you have to bear with me for a little.

( I leave for awhile. To finish this I will return soon.)
