Environmental expert by training, knowledge management practician, environment educator and environmental campaigner by profession and change maker by passion.

Profile:

I have a Postgraduate Degree in ‘Mountain Environment and Global Change’ from the University of Torino, Italy under the International Programme on Research and Training on Sustainable Management of Mountain Areas (IPROMO) initiative jointly managed by Faculty of Agriculture, University of Torino, FAO and UNESCO together with over a dozen partners, and a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Tribhuvan University, Nepal with specializations in Mountain Environment Management and Environmental Economics.

I have about nine years of working experience in the environment field including over four years with the Asia regional organization Asia Pacific Mountain Network (APMN), global organization Mountain Forum (MF) and intergovernmental organization International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as the latest assignment. Prior to my international assignments, I have worked for over 6 years with competent Nepalese NGOs, The Explore Nepal and Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) in various capacities.

Besides my regular job, I am also working as a part-time Lecturer at couple of colleges affiliated to the Tribhuvan University (TU) and the Purbanchal University (PU). In addition to this, I am owner and global moderator of the Environment Professionals’ Group: Water, Climate Change and Biodiversity Information Network, and serving Environmentalists’ Association of Nepal (EAN) as 2nd Vice-president since December 2006. I am responsible to develop water and climate change related programs for EAN. Currently I am also serving ClimateHimalaya initiative as an executive director and coordinating an informal network of climate change professionals across the region.

I have an extensive experience in the field of knowledge management, especially through application of on-line and off-line ICT tools. I was the key player responsible to revamp, restructure and reorganize the Mountain Forum On-line Library and to develop ICIMOD Books On-line. Similarly I was pivotal to develop DVD of ICIMOD Publications (an off-line version of ICIMOD Books On-line). Currently I am developing an inventory of organizations, projects and activities on various environment related field in the Greater Himalayan Region. I played an important role to manage the Mountain Research and Development Journals’ 25th Anniversary Survey and assisted the Mountain Forum’s Information Service team to organize couple of e-conference held in 2005 and 2006. I envisioned and coordinated the e-conference on Climate Change and the Himalayan Glaciers (7-30 May 2007) and developed a synthesis report on the occasion of World Environment Day 2007.

My areas of expertise are: natural resources conservation and management, economic valuation, environmental communication and application of ICT for knowledge management, social mobilization, project planning and management, environmental pollution control and climate change (scientific research and responses including policy measures).

My ethnic root belongs to indigenous mountain community "Khasa" based in Jumla district of Nepal.
