Omidyar.net

Every individual has the power to make a difference

Omidyar.net was a gathering place for members from around the world and its community members collaborated on many various projects.  Hosted by Omidyar Network from July 2004 until it was archived on September 7, 2007, many Omidyar.net members ended up at ned.com, a site that replicated the same user interface and software platform originated at Omidyar.net. ...learn more

About

Get ! Algae was founded to design bioreactors by biologically inspired

design, to build and operate them for (local) food production (algae). It

is located at Innopark, Zurich, in Switzerland. We are working to design low-priced

reactors to grow algae.

Algae are very efficient photosynthetic cell factories.

Bioreactors are complex systems composed of several sub-

systems, like light, reaction aera, gas exchange system etc.

Most existing designs of bioreactors are too expensive or (open

ponds) have a very low yield (0.1 g/litre/day). By following biolo-

gically inspired designs (biomimicry), we try to find ways to build

high efficiency bioreactors with  high yield and sustainable materials.

Our second prototype is up and running and we started a few weeks

ago with a physicist with computer simulations (computional fluid

dynamics) to customise the model.
