About
I am the Community Outreach Coordinator for WiserEarth, and am also helping to create the bi-monthly community newsletter for them. I relocated to San Francisco last year and am looking for new ways to be sustainable. I am a writer, an activist, and a voracious reader of comic books and environmental non-fiction. I believe the true measure of people is what they do in their spare time :) I'm so happy that a site like this exists, and hope it spreads like wildfire.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about getting around WiserEarth or finding what you need: kerry@wiserearth.org. I am happy to help!

Hi Kerry,
Thank you for your invitation to post questions. Indeed, I have some concerning WE.
My day job is to participate in or coordinate projects with multidisciplinary teams. I still wonder, whether WE could be used as the main internet exchange platform of such a team instead of building an own website, just for the sake of a project.
What we normally need is - a place where to present the project, its activities and results - a group Wiki should allow to do that. - a place where to store photos and text - should be possible in some way, is there a photoalbum function available? - a place with restricted access for group members only, where texts can by jointly developed before publishing and data stored for exchange and discussion before their release into the public domain - is there such a possibility with WE? - an open forum - that is the core function of WE, I guess. - a possibility to link to other places on the net - should work with resources, solutions, events...
The advantage of integrating a project into WE would be to link it more easily to other similar activities and to have people pass by and drop in, maybe contribute their thoughts because the explore WE.
The advantage of WE would be that it gets filled with content through tough work of a professional team dealing with environmental issues, in my case related to water and its reasonable use in a c2c approach.
Looking forward to your comments and instructions about how to best proceed within WE, or maybe combine an own webpage for the closed access part and WE.
Best regards, Martin |

I'd like to join your group at your invitation and explore ways we can collaborate on a project we are launching in NJ. Thanks, Tim |

Kerry,
Thanks a lot for your answer. I think that gives me the information I first need. Next I'll try to start a restricted group. I may come back to you if I experience problems and will be glad for further assistance and instructions.
Maybe two immediate questions:
1) If I want to run a restricted and open group about the same topic in parallel in order to shift information into the open once the internal work is finished, what would be the best way to do that?
2) Is there a way to create a thread of questions and answers here, as on a forum or a message board between two persons, as fb provides, just not to flood your own board and to better keep track of my questions and your helpful answers?
Have a good day,
Martin
