About

I have long been passionate about the outdoors, and have easily spent several years of my life sleeping under the stars. Enduring interests include mountaineering, backpacking, nordic and telemark skiing, trail running, gardening, cooking and bike commuting.

Professionally, my background is in Environmental Education, with an MS from Lesley University/Audubon Expedition Institute. The vast majority of my work has been with small non-profit education organizations, including North Cascades Institute and the High Mountain Institute. Along the way, I have worked as a science teacher, naturalist, outdoor guide and educator. Apart from occasional stints in Bellingham, WA and Leadville, CO, I have lived in Portland, Oregon since 1992.

I am currently working as the Stewardship Director for the Friends of Forest Park, which will soon be the Forest Park Conservancy. Forest Park is a 5,400 acre natural area park entirely within the city limits of Portland, Oregon. There are over 70 miles of trails running through 5,400 acres of largely second growth forest. Over 100 species of birds and many large mammals (including black bear, elk, cougar) have been seen within its boundaries. It is an amazing place, and a big part of why Portland is such a livable city. I love running the trails, and the ability to escape the urban realm in a matter of minutes gives me great comfort.

Beginning in the fall of 2007, I will be an MBA in Sustainability candidate with the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.
