About

I am a recent graduate of Trent University (BAh History) where the major focus of my studies was on the Holocaust and other human rights issues.  My major research papers covered topics such as Jewish armed resistance to the Holocaust, NAzi brutality, the Armenian Genocide, the treatment of Japanese-Canadians during the Second World War, the treatment of the First Nations people in Canada furing the 19th century, and the Brutality of the French penal colony (Devil's Island) in Guiana.

I am currently interning at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) http://migs.concordia.ca/ where we are working on a project called the Will to Intervene (W2I) http://migs.concordia.ca/W2IInfo.html.  I hope to stay in MOntreal for the year and complete a (History) Master's Degree at Concordia University, with a paper that examines the effectiveness/success of armed Jewish resistance to the Holocaust.

some of my interests include Snowboarding, Golfing, cooking and travelling. In May 2009, I was accepted to the Canadian Centre For Diversity's http://www.centrefordiversity.ca/ trip The March of Remembrance and Hope http://www.remembranceandhope.com/ where my passion for studying the Holocaust and love for travelling combined. MRH is a trip that takes 60 Univeristy students from accross Canada to Germany and Poland to visit Holocaust memorial sites.  While in Europe, we visited Auschwitz I and II, Treblinka, Majdanek, Warsaw, Tykocin, Berlin, Wansee, and many other imoportant sites that were host to the horrific Nazi crimes.

In the Summer of 2008, I volunteered at the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) http://www.vhec.org/ where I took a complete inventory of their library holdings then compiled a list of works that they should add/remove from the inventory, and also helped with research on the Jewish resistance and Nazi Olympics exhibits.

Hi Ryan,

look forward to more. I am just learning how to make WE the main exchange platform for the projects I am coordinating. That would bring substantial content directly to WE, and hopefully trigger discussions about what we are doing and exchange with people, who are not directly linked to the project. I hope so at least.

If you remember the holocaust, I am sure you want to learn how to stop it from repeating, not only a holocaust directed against Jews, but against anybody on earth. Probably you already know the figures, but just as a reminder, there are 36 million people dying every year from hunger, 3 million from dirty water (i.e. lack of water supply and sanitation). You can easily extend the list. All these deaths are not natural catastrophes but man made (and I mean men, not humans), through structural poverty and disregard for the needs of a large part of the world's population (see Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, to learn more about the issue). I'll be glad to join forces to change this.

Best regards,

Martin

Dear friends of Ryan

(and dear Ryan, thanks for letting me post this letter here).

I have always wanted and believed in the possibility of peace. Over the past few weeks, as I begun collecting and selecting data of peace initiatives between Palestine and Israel, I was deeply moved to see the radical extent of heart and mindset shift towards peace, through non violent conflict resolution acts in the region. The thought struck me - here is a direct proof that the reality of humanity is far greater than the reality of the situation; that peace, here, is not only possible but inevitable... and, that if this is so here, it must be true everywhere.

There is now less than a month to the International Day of Peace, 21 September 2009. If you hold peace dear in hope, I would like to invite you to sign your name on the Peace Day Wall (below the image), and if you wish, please pledge your intent for the day in support.

I most sincerely hope to see you there

Many thanks and kindest regards

Hey ! Cool an excuse to come in and see whats happening!

WE are working to expand our programs, we have a building weekend for three days, camping in big basin state park, and working four minutes away at our outdoor kitchen building event...

we are welcoming natural builders whho want to become part of a growing educational organization. We host sustainability building camps, and want to certify  trainers, so we can start certifying green builders to go into many communities and host building camps for those who see the value of collective village building development...environmental recivery along with cultural recivery if we use this system to guide this development on all the levels required these days.....

there are many legal ways to do this in our nation...

and, our native communities need this most, folks...

thanks again, Ryan...for this attention on natural and whole community healing through sustainable housing and village development...

send folks to our site...were upgrading over the next weeks.

Thanks for adding me to your network of compassion, caring, giving and goodwill.

Actions of goodwill are immeasurable in the scope of human development.

Taking a stand for what your heart tells you is right, just and necessary is the work of heroes.

I believe there is bumper crop of heroes in the current youth generations.

The old ways are hard to change but new, innovative and creative approaches to real change will work.

Inspire all the young people you can with the courage to BE their best and brightest Self.

Your leadership and that of millions of other young women and men will change this suffering world for the better.

I have no doubt. I firmly believe the good and the compassionate among us will show the way ahead to those lost inn the fogs of yesterday.

Be fearless and let each barrier to progress be a cause for celebration because once you overcome that barrier it will free more people than you will ever know.

I am thankful that you are alive and engaged in creating a better world for all people and life on earth.

Wow! Your passion and interest in making a difference is evident in your description above. I just checked out the link for W2I  - thanks for sharing it! I am presently working on my doctorate with a focus on Social Entrepreneurship. My research area is centered around what makes a person want to make a difference and further actually go out and do something about it. I like social entrepreneurship because of its sustainable nature..independence vs. dependence.

Thanks for adding me to your network.

Best Wishes,

Karen

Thank you for your invitation to connect...

You sound very passionate about your studies and work ...this is great to hear and see how you are moving you and that passion out into the world...

My interest is in Human Potential  and have studied human dymanics for more than 20 years... for it is people who make the world stories societies and how the world is working, so to change the outside world story we need to change from within...

I wish you all the best in your endeavours and your contribution to our world... for you are the difference just by being here now and being you... :))

Thanks Ryan for your interest and inviting me to your network!

Have you heared about the Arab Institute for Holocaust Research and Education (Khaled Kasab) ?

This could be interesting modern approach for you ..

I would love to see/know how you cover the Palestian NAKBA in your studies ...

The NAKBA is a continuum of the Holocaust (not only) or one of its prices. Palestinian has to pay for the culture of aggression against Jews in Europe, which established a militant, fanatic forces in the Zionist movement who struggled to save western Jews. If we did not have had that culture, Jews Christian and Moselms would be living together in good manner in the good land who hold us over so many thousand years.

We will continue the talk, but not soon .. Tomorrow is my last day in Germany. I am leaveing back to Palestine after 17 years absense.

the best for you and all,

in peace,

wael

Thank you, Ryan, for a prompt response!

Though, I'm sure, you are quite busy with your studies, would you consider creating some resource pages here on WiserEarth? This is an important subject... speaking for myself, I'd love to see your input presented here!

You are on my watchlist.

Regards
