Josep Puig i Boix (1947, Ph D engineer, Politechnical University of Barcelona, 1982) is working currently both at the University and with private companies, mainly in the renewable energy field.
Courses on Energy Resources and Energy & Society as Associate Professor at the ‘Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona’ (since 1979).
Founder in 1981 of Ecotècnia S. Coop., a Barcelona pioneering wind energy manufacturing firm (www.ecotecnia.com). As a founder of Ecotècnia he has been recipient of the Poul laCour Award at the 2001 European Conference on Wind Energy.
Founder in 1992 of Ecoserveis, a non-profit NGO devoted to consultancy, research and education on energy and environment (www.ecoserveis.net). Ecoserveis has been awarded by the European Solar Prize 2004 in the category of Solar Architecture, for leading the Sun Factory project in Barcelona.
Author of many books, papers and articles on energy, technology and environment.
Elected member of the Barcelona City Council (May 1995). Between 1995 and 1999 he served as Sustainable City Councillor and as a chairman of the Civic Table on Energy. He leaded the Barcelona process to adopt the Barcelona Solar Ordinance The ordinance has been awarded with the European Solar Prize 2001. He chaired the European network of cities working on energy ‘Energie-Cités’ (1997-2000). He is currently involved with ‘Barcelona Grup d’Energia Local – BarnaGEL’, the local energy agency of the Barcelona area, created in 1996 with the support of the E.U. SAVE Program.
Member of the Group of Scientists and Technicians for a Non Nuclear Future since 1981, NGO organising since 1987 the Catalonian Conferences for a Sustainable and Non Nuclear Energy Future in Barcelona (www.energiasostenible.org)
Founder member and president of EUROSOLAR Spain and vice-president of EUROSOLAR – The European Association for Renewable Energies (www.eurosolar.org).
He is politically active with ‘Els Verds – Alternativa Verda’ (The Greens – Green Alternative), the green party of Catalonia (www.verds-alternativaverda.org) . He has been involved with the Rio-92 process and acted as energy negotiator in the International NGO Forum at the Rio Global Forum. Also he has been participating at the Johanesburg People’s Global Forum.
