About

I have been a developer of affordable housing in California and a City Planner and General Contractor.  I  know something of  construction, of energy alternatives and efficiency, of finance, development, and design.  My call now is to be part of creating a truly sustaining human settlement, what I imagine calling an Eros Village--that Eros in the larger sense of beauty and juicy delight in the terrible beauty of life.  So it would be a village which would be sustainable in terms of energy and materials through-put--or as efficient in use of those as can be.  But also it would be, like traditional organic villages, deeply beautiful and so support the highest nature of the human soul.   It would be designed conscious of sacred geometry, and have sweet buildings with balconies and savory simple materials and  with human, hand-made touches, and have narrow streets green with trees and shrubbery.  There would be many small squares with shops and sitting places all around.  LIke Seaside in Florida, but even softer and more free-form  in layout, following the coutours of a hillside, responding appropriately to the nuances of the terrain--the old trees, the great boulders, the vistas.   It would be a village with buildings designed by each lot owner or his/her designer, but all following agreed patterns of design (a deep form code) to ensure both the overall harmony and the richness of individual imaginings.

Let us dream and then work this village into existence together.   The world needs such places, as do our souls.
