About
Nancy LaPlaca, J.D., is an energy activist and consultant working to increase renewable energy and energy efficiency, and decrease the use of fossil fuels, in particular coal-fired electrical generation. Nancy is an intervenor at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission in a number of dockets involving electrical generation facilities and transmission. Nancy is working with a group called No New Coal Plants to demonstrate that gasified coal (called Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle or IGCC) is cost-prohibitive, extremely inefficient (capturing CO2 decreases plant output by about 20%), and that the volume of CO2 that would need to be captured makes the process completely impractical and unworkable. There are currently150+ new coal plants scheduled to be built in the U.S.

When I dance, I dance, when I sleep, I sleep; yes, and when I walk
alone in a beautiful orchard, if my thoughts drift to far-off matters
for some part of the time, for some other part I lead them back
again to the walk, the orchard, to the sweetness of this solitude,
to myself.
