Open Blue Sea Farms

Ocean Blue is invested in our world's oceans and seafood.  Jump in and join us.  Eat happily ever after.

Open Blue Sea Farms is an open ocean aquaculture company, designed to provide a sustainable supply of healthy, nutritious and delicious seafood in a manner that is environmentally respectful to the oceans and their stakeholders.  The firm is currently seeking additional Series A funding to launch in Panama by mid 2009.

res   The result of nearly a decade of cutting edge investigative research and study on open ocean aquaculture in collaboration with the word’s leading scientific laboratories and universities, Open Blue Sea Farms really isn't a start-up.  We are the culmination of the earth’s best scientific and tech-driven minds supported by a seasoned, feet-on-the-street, savvy management team with the backing the world’s first aquaculture-specific venture capitalist firm.  And therein lies critical and key competitive advantages that cannot be matched, topped or trumped.  Our concept is proven with over 50 tons of Cobia cultivated and sold to upscale USA seafood restaurants, distributors and brokers in the past year.

Think of our Cobia as a versatile cousin of Chilean Sea Bass.  It's not genetically engineered in any way, just well bred. It's sashimi-grade and sustainably farmed without hormones or prophylactic antibiotics. It's richer in omega-3 than just about anything else in the ocean and has no detectable mercury. It melts on your tongue, holds up on the grill, and is so rich in oils that some chefs fry it in a pan without butter.  Free of mercury, PCBs and other contaminants, pregnant women, nursing moms, and young children can all eat as much as they want of what might just be the best-tasting fish they've ever had. Really. It's that good.

      Company Snapshot

Open  Blue's founder, Brian O'Hanlon is an open ocean aquaculture veteran. Through is first venture, Snapperfarm, Inc. he was one of the first in the world to move fish farming into the open sea. He pioneered the use of advanced cage designs for deep water, high energy, open ocean sites. He was the first to stock mutton snapper and cobia in open ocean cages in the Western hemisphere and the first to successfully market and sell large quantities of premium cobia to the U.S. market.

With   With Open Blue, O'Hanlon has assembled a team and platform to take sustainable open ocean aquaculture development to an entirely new level. Our farms are further offshore in deeper water. We are building a unique, vertically integrated enterprise to create value, realize economies of scale, generate higher margin and maintain full traceability through every step of the production cycle.

The   The integrated platform of hatchery, open ocean growing sites, processing, support facilities, administration, sales and marketing we are building will allow for a highly scalable, diversified business. We are confident our platform is a foundation for sustainable growth that is unmatched in the region.

Op     Open Blue has secured permits and leases to stock open ocean cages in Panama. The company is currently in the process of securing additional property, staff and capital in 2009.
