The mass killing of human beings based on national, ethnic, racial, or religious identity is profoundly intolerable; we cannot remain silent in the face of genocide. About

Hi, Mary here.

I am serving as The Nature Conservancy's Director of US Fire Training. I am interested in collaborating with FLN participants from all kinds of landscapes and institutions to figure out what training we would like, to further prepare our fire workforce to conduct ecologically-driven fire management at the landscape scale. I am also interested in grappling with how we will prepare our successors to work in fire as it becomes influenced by climate change.

Personally, I am a plant community ecologist and a prescribed burner who learned how to burn the woods in the Midwest and Southeast.  I have worked with The Nature Conservancy since 1986 as a land manager, volunteer coordinator and project director.  I am returning to the Conservancy after five years working on my Ph.D. in fire science, emphasizing community-based fire management.

Please call me if you would like to trade notes.  Better yet, let's work on the fireline together.

Sincerely,

Mary Huffman
