mark: irc is an open and free (as in freedom) protocol and there are many free software clients for it -- freedom of choice guaranteed. ;) a community like this should not rely on proprietary communication channels such as a website with a business model based on displaying ads. but i agree, instead of the java chat for the website a flash or ajax solution should be considered. this would lower the barrier for not-so-technical folks.
