About

I am a social justice, peace and environmental activist and I own my own 'green' business, in fact 2 of them!  I manufacture a standalone degradable packing material made from recycled cardboard which replaces peanuts, bubblewrap, foam, air bags, and many other non-degradable petroleum-dependent packing materials.  You can see more about this at www.PrairieEcoPak.com.  And I manufacture a chemical-free, earth-friendly fire starter made from recycled cardboard and natural soy wax.  See this product at www.PrairieFireBugs.com.  I am convinced that if people understood what was at stake environmentally, if we could educate and engage them at the level of self-interest and self-less-interest, we would empower activists who demand accountability for environmental degradation.  I am interested in exploring how to motivate people to take action, get involved, CARE about the future of the planet.

I am also a member of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (www.wilpf.org) and active in the Des Moines Branch.

I am married and have a daughter in college.  I am a native of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but have lived many years in Georgia and now Iowa.  I am a proponent of and subscriber to YES! Magazine and the Positive Futures Network.

And I believe that people the world over want to do the right thing, but need to be assured of some kind of safety net that will allow them to make sacrifices and still feel safe.  I believe that business and corporations must put people before profits if the planet is to continue to thrive.  And I believe that if they don't it's up to us revolutionaries to demand accountability.  I think Madame LaFarge had a point...!

I believe that what we need is a dramatic and interactive vision of how the world might work if sustainability were at the center of society.
