I love the creativity of this organization page! Is SOS an organization that might benefit from having a group on WiserEarth as well.

This is new territory for WiserEarth, as a community, what do you think of using facebook to spread the word about WE using an application?
|
|
If you have experience creating applications of this kind, please feel free to engage in a more technical discussion here. We will need one to develop the actual application in the coming months, and would love to have the development originate in the WE community. Ideas anyone?

The idea is to create an application that will sit in a users profile and link back to WiserEarth. This application needs to be interactive, and engage facebookers on an ongoing basis. Something like "scrabbulous" or the other facebook games is good because there is a reason for users to constantly use it, however, the WiserEarth application should engage/educate users about environmental, social juscice, and indigenous rights issues (keeping with the spirit of the site). Thoughts anyone?

After spending the last few weeks at student focused events throughout the west coast, I have absorbed some excellent feedback about WiserEarth, and how it can better be used by students. As a community-based site in its infancy, WiserEarth will grow in the direction its users take it, and here is a space to talk about what is on your mind.

In the coming months representatives from WiserEarth will be available to make presentations in university classrooms throughout the west coast. The idea behind classroom presentations is to help students and faculty use WE as an academic tool & educate students about the purpose, history, and scope of the WE site. Before we launch this new form of outreach, WE would like some feed back from faculty. WE would like to know how you think the site will be helpful to students & to you as educators. Let us know!

Hi Jacob, thanks for joining WiserEarth! I would encourage you to create an "organization" page for the Joru Foundation. Creating an organization page & subsequent group page will help you build a network for your foundation. Once you have an organization page, those searching WE with key words like 'tibet' & 'education' will be directed towards your org.

Here are some ideas about what it means to be a key WiserEarth student, however, I would love to hear from you all. You are the on-campus voice, the ones with the expertise about what WiserEarth can do for your peers. Please feel free to add comments & give feedback.
WiserEarth Key Students... -Inform their peers about WiserEarth and encourages them to join -Create and join organizations and groups on WiserEarth and take an active role helping them grow. -Update WiserEarth when there are relevant campus events. -Participate in discussion forums and helps to keep the information on WiserEarth wiki pages up to date. |

If I might make a suggestion...a good start might be to add some organizations that are focused on the issues you suggest below Justin. I agree that 3 to 12 ratio does not make sense. If there were groups on WiserEarth focused on these mens issues, then it might make sense to expand the sub-portals on the men's site. This suggestion is following Mike's train of thought, that the current set up is a reflection of active organizations.

The big day for Focus the Nation is fast approaching. WiserEarth tables are going to be present on several campuses throughout northern CA. I am curious about the happenings at other schools, around the nation, and would love to hear about how the events went after the big day. Focus the Nation is the first national teach-in of it's kind in decades, I am eager for its success.

The price of methanol has hit $2.50 a gallon (see Methenex PDF in the resource area). I am curious about the current and future effects of this price jump on the biodiesel industry, and what caused the increase. Ideas anyone?

I like the idea of a finder application in facebook, the original idea was to create a WE search function application where fb users can find organizations, areas of focus, groups etc. but the concern is that it is not engaging enough. Ideally the application would keep users coming back to WiserEarth.
One idea is to have some kind of featured cause or organization that appears in the application window on a daily basis. Another is to make a trivia based application, where fb users have to search the site for the answer to a question about environmental, social, and indigenous issues and compete with each other to see who gets the info faster.
These are all just ideas, I have no idea how difficult it would be to create something like this. That is a topic for the technical section of this forum...
