About

Kadam is a Society registed under the West Bengal Societys Act 1961- Regd No: S/IL/36404 2006-07 in Kolkata founded by 2 product designers and run by volunteer members who inspired by the Gandhian philosophy want to contribute to the development of the Society, which has given us so much.
We at Kadam believe that migration of youth from villages to urban cities is at the bottom of the plethora of problems facing the new generation
Urban slums, unemployment, rampant violence and street children are a direct fall-out of this migration.
We aim at tackling these problems at the grass root level by assisting in creation of viable employment oppurtunities at the village level. We first adopt a village/Block, work with them for 4 years approximately till they are self reliant and then wean them off.We move on to another area of operation. To achoeve this we follow a certain strategy-
Two-prong strategy
1. Backyard industry:  Creating small/ medium enterprises will lead to greater utilization of local resources and help stem the migration from villages.
2. Skill Upgradation: Teaching skilled artisan's basic professionalism and the concept of quality and commitment.
We have been working with certain craft dominated rural areas in Orissa & Bengal till now.
