Hi All!
I am curious on what each of these organizations are about in this coalition, and have a tool here to help define some leverage points for collaborations. The Urban Alliance for Sustainability is building a relationship database for the Sustainability Movement and we'd like your input and to add your organization to this data base. The purpose of the project is to effectively suggest partnerships in the movement so we can all better meet our missions, so that the movement can better utilize the resources at its disposal. More information is on our website at: www.uas.coop/mem and plenty of ways to collaborate with this template UAS has come up with at: http://www.uas.coop/collaborationtemp The results of this project will be made available to the public later this Spring. Beyond that, UAS will dedicate resources to maintaining this database and communicating the results to the appropriate people, and lending this to this coalition. This is not going to be a static resource page, but a dynamic center for collaboration. So, please take 5-10 minutes and share with us information about your organization below, this will also help the other groups here have a better idea of what you do and how we can all collaborate more together. Thank you for your time and all that you do! Organization Name: Website: Contact Name: Contact Title: Contact email: Contact phone: Mailing address: Organization Mission, including geographic scope: Organization strategy: Policy, Direct Action, or Economy (do you work to change government, do you administer your own non profit programs, or do you use for profit models to affect change) Organization strategy commentary: (What programs, product lines, or policy venues do you use to affect change, brief description only) Sustainability categories: (though a holistic movement, it can be useful to identify some focus areas, use the following or add your own focus, list in order of importance) Food, Water, Energy, Built Environment and Land Use, Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration, Ecological Design, Media, Arts and Culture, Education, Commerce and Trade, Social Equity, Transportation, Wellness, Community and Governance Needs: (in order of priority, use the following list or add your own list items, feel free to explain) * Funding, * Volunteers, * Members/Customers, * Qualified Employees , * Office space and resources which meet your sustainability standards, * Technology support, * Networking and community collaboration support, * (Other) Resources you have to offer: Staff size: Volunteer/Member/Customer base: (how big is your current contact list) Relationships with others in the sustainability movement: (indicate whether Collaborators, Clients, Supporters, or Peers) Are you interested in offering a job training or intern program? Hey all!
So at our last meeting in November we thought that we would try out WISER earth for a resource sharing platform and build from there. How is it working, do we need a refresher? Who all is involved, knows about this as a resource, and who else do we need to reach out to? What is working, what isn't what else do we want to create? Here is the action items I captured from the last meeting, please feel free to add to this or clarify anything here, I'm sure there's more that you've been thinking about for this collaborative. We also talked about the next meeting being in a cafe for a cozier environment, so name your favorite spot and we can go from there :) I like the Numi tea house in Oakland. oh geeze! So many people....
jean russel, julie, network weavers network on ONet, deeper understanding of WISER earth, so many people and strengthened connections! I was looking forward to green October in Seattle, and appreciated all his efforrts and messages out about that. I wish this year the best and miss him very much and feel him in my heart. I have learned from him in the ways he goes about connecting people, as each one was so heart felt* |

I met Habib In early January this year, 2007 at a holiday party at Eric and Sarah's and Ally's in Seattle. He was the sweetest man!! He offered to buy my ticket home so I could stay in Seattle a few more days, for the honoring of his work in Seattle. I honor his work no matter where I go! He has been such an intentional networker, introduced me to ONet and great people, and I so appreciate his community building skills, and initiatives. He is one I carry in my heart always.

The next YEC meeting is THURSDAY 6/19
at 3:30pm - 5:30pm
in San Francisco
Earth Island Institutes (300 Broadway #28).
1. How YEC might become incorporated as its own organization. It's
leader could to facilitate the pipeline between orgs and create a web
hub for both youth and program providers.
2. Creating an advisory or leadership council to formalize and
maintain YEC resources:Facilitate Resource Sharing – share with school
districts or school board meetings... Stewardship council can provide
some back office support
3. Define mission statement and purpose: planning group should
prioritize this
4. Youth quest: could become a once a year YEC event that helps to
bring programs together.
5. Subcommittees for major tracks (web, resources, funding,
transportation, political access, small business development details,
etc…) give members of this coalition a role and something to own and
move forward with....
6. Coordinate quarterly YEC meetings
7. Youth Advisory Council to provide insight
COMMUNICATIONS:
§ Possible List Serve if participants are interested
§ Quarterly Newsletter/e-newsletter/Zine to include Youth
§ Commonly shared wiki site: way for each group to post own info and
resources, turn it into collaborative website rather than putting it
all on one individual; youth also update, participating
§ Blog for posting and responding to questions
§ Online Calendar and resource list (currently using WISER earth, and
there is not much participation on it:
http://www.wiserearth.org/group/YEC) (you're here now ;)
Review notes and objectives again from last year's meeting, before we
Set a date/time/intention/agenda for larger group meeting
SOME BIG QUESTIONS TO PONDER:
"Where did the Momentum go?" there was a lot that came out of the day
summit from last year in the Summer.
Is it a good time to send out those notes, needs, and resources again
along with a call-out for another gathering? Who has those?
send the Youth Quest need/offer to move onto another organization
request out... rfp?
Is there any organizing outside of this YEC'ness you know of?
What can we do to forward our mission that would grab people's attention
and bring them in to participate more?
Who else should we bring in for organizing this next gathering? Who was really helpful last year?
