About
I am currently completing my second year of teaching middle school science in Memphis, Tennessee. I am one of nearly 100 corps members in Memphis and 5,000 nationwide who have devoted two years to ending educational inequality. Prior to coming to Memphis I lived in Central Florida where I received my B.S. and M.S. at the University of Central Florida. My Bachelor's is in Liberal Studies and my Master's degree is in Health Services Administration. I spent two years working at Orlando Regional Medical Center while pursuing this my Master's. I had plans of attending medical school when finished. One evening watching a football game I came across a Teach For America commercial and was compelled to jump on a different path. I felt that I could make a bigger impact providing a quality education to children, regardless or race or socioeconomics, than I could ever provide in a medical setting. Additionally, the opportunity to create equal access to what I feel as a fundamental right, health care and education, was something that also inspired me.
With that said, I am here in Memphis, teaching and looking to the future. Since moving here my girlfriend and I have become pretty passionate outdoors people. Hiking, mountain biking, camping, and most especially trail running have become big parts of our life. All are welcome as surfing has become a minor part of my life (No beaches in Memphis and the Mississippi River doesn't cut it).
I feel Memphis was an opportunity not to be missed and next summer I hope to move on. While I would like to remain in education and perhaps puruse a leadership position I am not committed to remaining in the classroom. I feel I can have a greater impact outside of the classroom. I would like to perhaps pursue a career that incorporates environmental stewardship, outdoor activity, technology, and leadership with education. But I am open minded and would definitely like to consider all opportunities.

Greetings ,
A group of us are starting an effort to transition Chattanooga and the rest of Tennessee from the current model of society to one that is local in focus and sustainable for the generations that have yet to experience the wonder that is the Tennessee Valley region.
We are still in the very early stages of this effort and we need the vision of any and every one who desires to be part of this.
This is the link to our web site. http://transitiontennessee.ning.com/
Please take a few minuets to look at it and see if you would be interested in being part of the effort. If not yourself please pass the link on to others whom you think would.
Thank you for your time and attention
David
