About

I am a passionate food systems and wise land use advocate/activist, a mom, an academic research librarian, and all around community development kind of person.

I am interested in empowerment of women and in any enterprise that seeks to push forward "women and children first" policy with the understanding that to not do so is to do a disservice to one's own family and one's own life, nonetheless a disservice to local and global communities in which we all participate. If women are not aided and encouraged to raise passionate, aware, just, and balance seeking children then the global community will continue in its path of dominance, war, and injustice.

I am dedicated to helping my local farmers and producers have a better/bigger voice in my county because it is the only way to stop greedy people from paving over some of the best dirt in North America. Sprawl and illiteracy are my enemies.

I am passionate about keeping historical and cultural continuity in mind when making decisions - to fail to do so ensures repetition of atrocities instead of sustainable development.

I believe that growth at all cost is a death knell for us all, and I also think that imbuing corporations with the rights of living beings is an example of evil at work in the world.

I believe that democracy is something to be learned and earned not sold or forced.

I was born in the state of Idaho, USA,  and I grew up in Cape Town, SA. I now reside in the state of Washington, USA, and I just came back from sabbatical in New Zealand. How all that happened is a long story, but it is part of why I have so many fields of interest.

best regards,

hi heather, i just got back in to checking my wiserearth inbox!!  my routine had sidetracked wiserearth due to it's convoluted navigation. but, i'm back and determined to make it work for me.  i haven't played go in yahoo in forever, yet play on facebook with another friend every day, each of us taking about five moves per day.. very nice and a nice step away from harried games on other websites. i also have an account on kgs if it interests you. i am not at all competetive and see go as a playful way of communicating and thinking. .  so i see from an earlier post you made you are a kiwi! where did you end up settling? sorry to hear about your dad. hope it settles itself in the least troubling way.  please feel free to contact me. i'm looking forward to hearing from you!..    annie

hallo wiserearthlings! I am writing a brief note to update any interested people as to why I seem to have disappeared!  In short, I am insanely busy. I have made the transition from NZ to the US, my poor old da is in the hospital, work is consuming as the economy has made demands of my time that I would prefer not to make.

That said, I am still here and I am coordinating myself to head right back into WE editorial work and help. I will be playing catch-up with the wonderful stuff that I ahve missed in the past few months, and soon I will be helping out however I can. Yes!

best,

h

Hello,

I noticed your group concerning water storage, and have a belief that water storage is going to be the next key to survival. I now have a 1250 gallon buried concrete tank, and a 6000 gallon above ground fiberglass tank. I collect rainwater directly from a metal roof (new), and have a submersible pump in said tank, and pump up the hill to the 6000 gallon tank. This allows me to have running water independent of any electricity or external supply once it is filled. My goal is to build a roof above the larger tank, and be able to have a completely independent water system.

My main concern is rumors of rainwater containing chemical pollutants, especially mercury. Do you have any info on this matter?

I live in northwest Arkansas, in the Boston "Mountains".

thanks for adding and active mental interconnection Heather ..

yes, over thinking about a vision for Palestinian I began to think about a vision for the world. My people are separated, especially after our displacement and creation Israel on Palestinian Land 1948 ..  we have the challenges the global community has, even we all are interconnected. On my ning we are discussion the nature of this internconnection and the reason of missing unity > http://gbasetup.ning.com

WiserEarth is a great initiative. But with the time I found out, there is lot to do and understand in order  to create a world-view manage the messy in our interconnectivty and relationships  ~

Such a world-view must be integral and co-creative.

best wishes ~
