Growing up with two very socially conscious and progressive parents, one with an uncompromising belief in the power of law to realize justice, I learned: 1) that doing good is the only right thing to do; 2) that making good happen requires tenaciousness, frequently obstinacy, and always hard work; and 3) smiling helps.
I've had the opportunity to do some things that were and remain greatly meaningful to me--traveling to the Soviet Union as a 17 year-old to advocate for the abolishment of nuclear weapons, helping set up a social group for children with cancer and other chronic diseases, giving voice online to the political views and values of young people in the 1996 presidential election, studying international human rights, and working for the United Nations. I'm now immersed in an online project, Rightswire, that provides human rights professionals and organizations with networking, collaboration, and information management services. I'm married to a woman who lives and breathes international justice, and works professionally for that cause. We occasionally talk about other important things, such as whether we should subscribe to US magazine, or whether I should wear something other than jeans, and stuff along those lines. I love singing, the guitar, snowboarding, and hanging out with friends. |
