About
I have recently retired from a career working in colleges in Canada. My work included teaching theatre and english, developing and managing academic programs, and developing policy. Initiating and supporting international student and faculty exchanges was a most interesting part of my last position as Dean of Communication Studies at Mount Royal College in Alberta, Canada. The academic programs for which I had responsibility ranged from programs developed for rural First Nations communities in Ontario to collaborative university degree programs in Alberta.
My education background includes a Ph.D. in Drama from the University of Toronto. For the past couple of years I have been taking courses to learn Spanish, a struggle, but one which I enjoy very much. Over the years I've taken many administrative-related courses such as project management, appreciative inquiry, and negotiation.
Since I retired about 18 months ago, I've had a number of volunteer opportunities including mentoring a high school student, serving on the education committee of a women's foundation, assisting at a local food bank, and teaching english as a second language through Cross-Cultural Solutions in Ayacucho, Peru. Most recently I've joined the Canadian Grandmothers for Africa group here in Calgary. I also spend as much time as possible visiting my grandchildren in northern Alberta and hiking and camping in the nearby Rocky Mountains.
I have just finished reading Paul Hawken's Blessed Unrest which led me to this website.
