About

I was inspired to create greenPRIDE when I made one choice to live green. In October 2006, I decided I was done with being an unconscious polluter. I resolved to change the impact I was making on the planet. I wanted to drive a car that ran on vegetable oil. Within 2 weeks of making that declaration, I sold my gasoline powered ’98 Ford Escort and bought an ’84 MBZ 300 diesel. My first stop was to get a full tank of biodiesel at Biofuels Oasis in Berkeley, California. I have not found the words yet to describe how good I felt that day.

Ironically, within two months I moved to San Francisco and reduced my daily commute from 30 to 4 miles. I parked my biodiesel MBZ and was riding public transportation to work. Everyday, I smiled knowing I had reduced my carbon emissions 80% by simply changing to the best smelling alternative fuel and taking the train. From there, my roommates and I began indoor composting, painted our apartment with non-VOC paint and decorated our single paned windows with thermal curtains. We changed lightbulbs, bought local organic food and celebrated how cool our choices were!

I believe in grassroots efforts. Start small and it can grow big! Our friends love our worms and can’t believe we have almost no garbage because we compost, recycle and buy in bulk. We reuse what we have and we think about what we buy. A wonderful consciousness sailed into our lives when all three of us had the same desire: to change how we live and lower our impact on the Earth.

This is why I started greenPRIDE. To share ideas, encourage positive change and inspire the desire to live a more balanced life. I believe this creates balanced communities that naturally create a healthier, balanced environment for all of us (animal, plant, mineral) to enjoy! Be a part of this consciousness flow and spirit of the Green Movement. Open yourself up and celebrate!

Hi Shannon :)

Action rocks! I have to salute you.

I've been learning stuff about our environmental crises but really haven't done much.

I work from home, and use public transport (bus), so I can keep my personal transportation-generated GHGs relatively low. I recently tried switching to a more vegetarian diet (since my mom was diagnosed with high blood pressure), but still haven't managed to find certified local organic ones ("organic" still is very marginal here), maybe I should take my mom to the local traditional market more so she wouldn't have to go to supermarkets or chain stores.

I now am looking into composting and detoxifying my sanitation goods (change my soap, shampoo & house cleaning chemicals to non-toxic biodegradable ones). Wish me success!

I've checked up on greenPRIDE and found some very practical daily tips to green my life. Keep up the good work.

Nice to know you Shannon and welcome to WiserEarth !
