About

I'm the bank evangelist for CitizensBank of Canada - it's a virtual bank, owned by VanCity credit union.

We operate for the triple bottom line:  people.planet.profits,  have a very low footprint since we're virtual (we do have a very small number of 1500ft storefronts) and have been 'green' since we started in 1997.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is part of our DNA. We want to leave the world better than we found it. And that means we care about more than just money. When we make decisions, we take all our stakeholders into account – members, employees, communities and the environment. Not only are we the only Canadian bank with a stated Ethical Policy on key social and environmental issues, but we report on our progress every two years in our externally-verified Accountability Report. Because we believe so strongly in defining success beyond the financial bottom line, we were especially proud to receive the top ranking among the country's banks for CSR in Report on Business Magazine's 2005 survey.

From our Shared Interest donations program and our affinity Visa card partnerships with Amnesty International and Oxfam to our environmental commitment to be "carbon neutral" by 2010, we express these ideals without compromising our rates, so you can put your money where your heart is.
