About
Born and raised in Minnesota, wilderness played a part in my life with annual canoe trips in the largest wilderness area in the country- the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Ethics concerning our environment have had an effect on my consciousness since a young age, and influenced my value system. Studying environmental studies & peace studies in college gave me a broad, interdisciplinary approach in my perspective. I am interested in many aspects of sustainability related to individuals and communities. I'm always finding new connections between aspects of our lives and our world. Among other activities, I have studied peace, restored prairies and riparian areas, interned on organic and biodynamic farms, gardened, taught environmental education, mentored youth and have worked with students with severe violence issues.
My career goals likely include more schooling in the area of social work or psychology, with hopes of creating violence prevention programs, as well as cultivating sustainable growing systems on the side. Organic psychology particularly interests me. Meanwhile, I enjoy learning about sustainability as it applies to so many aspects of our lives and sharing solutions to reduce our impact on the planet. Living in the Portland area has given me many opportunities to connect with people on this same wavelength. Seeking mentors continually is a goal of mine which I intend to continue throughout my life, and I hope to mentor others in the future as well. I'm thankful for the postitive mentors (including friends and family) who have shaped my life and who influenced my view of the world, which is always evolving.

[original 1848 version]
ALL things bright and beauteous,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wondrous,
The LORD GOD made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.
The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
GOD made them, high or lowly,
And ordered their estate.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky,
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day;--
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is GOD Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
(Cecil Frances Alexander)
