About
I am the Executive Director of an affordable housing non-profit, homeWORD, in Missoula, Montana. In this position, I oversee all facets of theorganization including development (organizational and project-based),fundraising, marketing, policy and collaboration, and personnel issues. I also oversee the Homeownership Centers and the Billings office andsupervise six staff. As Executive Director, I serve as the key grantwriter, raising over $1,000,000 in grants and donations; promote and advocate for the implementation of green building principles and sustainabledevelopment; organize mediaoutreach and further advocacy for affordable housing and green building; and focuson green building and educating communities through events, symposiums, andtours.
I also currently serve in the House of Representatives in the Montana's legislature and am running for reelection this fall. I served on the Natural Resource committee and the Local Government committee, and I am the Legislative Audit Committee during the interim.
I have a strong background in sustainable development from the University of Michigan. I served in the Peace Corps from 1996 to 1998 in Togo, West Africa and worked on a variety of projects from agroforestry to running a girl's group to encourage them to continue their education and goals. I also worked in Senegal, West Africa for a local NGO, ENDA-Tiers Monde, concerned with desertification and sustainable development.
I have a Master's of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and was a Doris Duke Fellow, worked as an intern at the Rocky Mountain Institute, studying the link between corporate sustainability and community sustainability. My thesis was on the Opportunities and Barriers to Building Affordable, Green Housing.

Thus you can throw yourself flat on the ground, stretched out upon Mother Earth,
with the certain conviction that you are one with her and she with you. You are as
firmly established, as invulnerable as she, indeed a thousand times firmer and more
invulnerable. As surely as she will engulf you tomorrow, so surely will she bring you
forth anew to the new striving and suffering. And not merely "some day." Now,
today, every day she is bringing you forth, not once but thousands upon
thousands of times, just as every day she engulfs you a thousand times over.
- Erwin Schroedinger, My View of the World, 1964, p.21
