About
I grew up surrounded by suburbia, hobby farms, and small woodlots in Beaverton, Oregon. Got engaged to the environmental movement at 17, when I worked as a canvasser for OSPIRG. Attended University of Colorado at Boulder for 1.5 years, then transferred up to Colorado State U. to finish my degree in Natural Resources Management, which we called No Real Major for short. Had a hard time finding paid work, so I apprenticed on various organic farms around the Northwest for a couple years, interspersed with ski bumming in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Went back to school at University of California-Davis to get my Masters degree in International Agricultural Development, emphasizing agroecology in my coursework. Did research in both Guatemala and Honduras on small-scale producers and biodiversity, then got a job at ALBA for the last 6.5 years as program manager and Director of Programs. See more info. about ALBA under Organizations. I am now doing consulting work and blogging at www.honestmeat.com
I live on an organic farm with cows, pigs, chickens, and vegetables with my lovely daughter Fiona, dog Iris, and my partner Jim.

Life is filled with suffering, but it is also filled with many wonders, like the blue sky, the sunshine, the eyes of a baby. To suffer is not enough. We must also be in touch with the wonders of life. They are within us and all around us, everywhere, any time.
