About

I'd like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land [which I currently inhabit], the Cadigal Wangal peoples of the Darug nation. I also pay my respects to their elders: past and present. [In the case of the Australian Aboriginies,] Sovereignty was never ceded.

Greetings
.

I believe in getting to know the people who you collaborate with as it creates stronger bonds, tighter groups with more understanding about where people are coming from (or where they are 'at' at the present time). To this end i'll try to develop this bio into something solid but for now i'll just pop in a couple bios which ive submitted recently for different things.

Otesha Managment Commitee Bio

Dylan Prins emerged from Western Sydney suburbia on his commuter bike and has been pottering around the inner west for a few years. A focus on events led to working with Peats Ridge Festival and later co-founding Figureight Sustainable Event Production. Joining the Otesha Vic Tour in early 2009 marked a lifestyle shift for him and after 5 months touring, urban woofing, bartering and permablitzing around Melbourne he is enjoying spending time back in Smogney with veggie gardens and composts rather than warehouses and sound systems.

Workshop Bio, for Powershift Youth Climate Change Conference, also for Otesha

Dylan Prins (24), seems quite good at leaving. He left his uni degree in its final year, left bands when he was too busy with events and after 5 years he's recently left the sustainable events world behind. He's considered to be a left-wing individual and he is even left handed. In January he left his Sydney warehome to join the Otesha VIC Tour. This was followed by 4 months in Melbourne: urban wwoofing, permablitzing and learning new skills. He hopes to leave paticipants feeling energised and refreshed.

UPDATE: Due to my current plan to spend less time on computers im no longer playing an active role on wiser earth. Im trying to spend minimal time on computers outside of a few key things, one of which is a blog site ive started called frugalist massive. happy networking..

Current Missions:

  • continue to learn about backyard food production, permaculture techniques
  • use a high level of barter in my lifestyle
    - seeking out urban wwoofing, homeshare, house-sitting, caretaker oppurtunities for housing
    - sourcing as much food as possible from local gardens, diverted food waste and urban gleaning
    - home prepped and shared meals almost all the time
    - "obtain yields" from utilising my skills and resources through LETS syd
  • should i need to purchase things, do my best to find second hand goods
  • experimenting with a frugal approach to all things, whilst still engaging through communication technology
  • building and highlighting links between existing similar groups within sydney (and similar successful melbourne projects), to assist development, strengthen groups and share resources. hopefully through wiser earth.
  • Podcast project: to document oral histories of elders in our community about frugal times past, cultural identity for 1st+2nd indentity migrant families and creative/sustainable community contrasts between Melbourne and Sydney
  • Give myself ample oppurtunities to heal, rest and not feel the need to constantly be productive (old habits)
  • Balance my time on computers/other machines with more emphasis on the physical world (sometimes struggle with that one too)

Other things:

  • im a vegetarian, mainly for instinctive reasons but also ethical/environmental
  • im a non-flyer. i had my first flight when i was 3.5 weeks old. I am committed to overland travel as an adult.

Ive found this portal to be a valuable way to concentrate my focus areas into the limit of ten that you can list here. I'll soon add more notes about each of them and what im interested in within each area. .

Local Food Systems (2713 people)  |  Permablitzs aim "increase backyard production so should food prices increase, we hardly notice. "
Permaculture (2923 people)  |  Learning and sharing insights on this design system approach. Looking to do a 'live in' PDC sometime soon, perhaps at Cydonia permaculture in nov..
Urban Revitalization (1158 people)  |  Transition towns - style urban renewal
Informal Economy (738 people)  |  Barter systems, LETS, informal trades, community economies
Indigenous Peoples and Cultures (2638 people)  |  Learning more about the Aboriginal culture, support rights issues
Dialogue, Deliberation and Consensus-Building (1865 people)  |  Keen to share skills on consensus decision making and conflict resolution
Alternative Medicine (2665 people)  |  Interested in facilitating accessible healing to volunteers and project workers who are often on the verge-of or completely burnt out. Usually without the networks or money to access beneficial healing treatments.
Performing Arts (1786 people)  |  I am a musician and drummer, looking to form a "post peak oil" percussion band who only travel and tour by bicycle, playing energetic percussion made from reclaimed materials
Youth Education and Empowerment (3579 people)  |  Continuing my support for the Otesha Project through workshops and presence on their Management Commitee
Radio and Audio (884 people) | Interested in capturing peoples stories and podcasting/broadcasting.
