About

I am a retired aeronautical research scientist who has become concerned with what the operations of civilization have done to the ecosystem. I was so concerned that I undertook my own research project to gain more understanding of what has actually happened. I wanted to leave a sound legacy.

I developed my research capabilities during my career by thinking through the theoretical and experiential arguments presented by a galaxy of knowledgeable people. As I am an Australian, most of this occurred in the land down under. But I did have the opportunity to discuss my specialty, fluid dynamics with kindred souls in Britain, America and Canada. I was a scientific adviser with a Royal Australian Air Force team sent to The United States to evaluate contender aircraft. I received international recognition for my achievements.

Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering Science

Member, Institution of Engineers, Australia

Member, Royal Aeronautical Society (Britain)

Member, American Society of Mechanical Engineers

Member, Society of Automotive Engineers (USA)

Visiting Fellow, Science Research Council (Britain)

Chairman, HAG8, The Technical Cooperation Panel  (USA, Britain, Canada, Australia)

Upon retirement, I put my proven research ability to work using the Internet to gain insight into the role that cheap, but irreplaceable, energy had played in the growth of society. I soon appreciated that the holistic malaise went far beyond the dependence on energy. It is summed up by the Dependence on Nature Law and the Ecological Limits Law. I am now satisfied that I have determined a sound basis for what has gone wrong in the development of the temporary civilization, which I call Tityas. It is an uncommon view. But perceptive people will appreciate it in due course.

I have incorporated these findings in ‘What went wrong? The misdirection of civilization’ in a manner intended for general readers but having a sound scientific backing. It will be published soon.

I am now producing a spreadsheet, ‘Growth and senescence of Tityas’ to become an ebook. It will provide a useful tool for assessing how communities will develop in the difficult times ahead. Civilization has grown exponentially in recent time. It complements the book ‘Gaia is concerned. Tityas has gone off the rails. What can be done? ‘ I am writing.

There is widespread concern about what climate change is doing to the operations of civilization and how this will develop. This disruption of the operation of the environment has come about because we have developed the means of unleashing vast natural forces by extracting and burning fossil fuels. Our systems have unleashed the Fossil Genie. Proposals to mitigate the impact of what the operations of civilization has done to the atmosphere and the oceans are based upon the premise that we can harness natural forces to remedy this mistake. I see the need for a sound statement of what is, and is not, possible in this regard. The understanding that I have obtained through my research enables me to write a short book explaining why we will not be able to stop climate change because we cannot exert the necessary control of natural forces. This book, ‘The Fossil Genie is loose! What will we do’, would encourage the use of intellectual and natural resources to adapt to the impact of the irreversible climate change.

These books on what civilization has done are to be complemented by a book ‘The Money Virus is rampant! How do we treat it?’ This focuses on the impact of money on the decisions made by humans, so what civilization has done to the ecosystems, often disastrously.

We have quite similar backgrounds and interests.  I was a physicist and science advisor with posts at the Nation Science Foundation (USA).  UNESCO, and the World Bank.  I recognized early that society was not going to change from the top.  So took an early retirement to work with social change NGOs.  I spent some 30 years networking the many good ideas a local social innovation. Like "Appropriate Technology" "Personal Learning:, and "Cooperative Community Economics." This took me on visits to many other cultures and many local innovators.  Now in my later years I am trying to put it all together in a book  summarizing of my ideas.

As the result of my research in recent decades, I have enunciated what our civilization has done and is doing to its life support system. It is an original view supported by sound argument, science and evidence. However, it is contrary to the common view amongst even scientists. The understanding I am putting forward will help in making sound decisions in the difficult times ahead. My biggest problem is to encourage widespread consideration of my thesis. Books are being published but that does not mean that they will find a market. I would welcome any suggestions about how to bring this material to the attention of a wide, global audience. It can contribute to a better quality of life and a better eco system even as the available natural capital declines.
