Daktari is a registered non-profit company located in the Limpopo Province, close to the town of Hoedspruit in South Africa. It is a wildlife orphanage where the objective is to look after orphaned wild animal who cannot be rehabilitated and use them as a medium to inspire and educate local underprivileged children to care for their environment.

Every Monday we welcome a new group of 6 local under-privileged children for a week and give them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife and conservation, their heritage. We also supplement their school curriculum in English, maths, sciences, geography, life skills and social issues. The motto is to “make a plan” so that people with disabilities have a similar life enriching experience.

We have hosted more than 200 children already over the year and some of them have even created a wildlife club in their village to carry on with our work of protection of the environment. The teachers have also observed an increase of interaction in the classroom and a greater motivation to learn and speak up in classes. The children have been much more polite and attentive in class and a significant increase in self conficence and self esteem has been noticed.
