About
Following 15 years of living without power lines in an Adirondack valley, I am interested in living more simply and sustainably. Now that my husband and I are in our seventies, we have moved back into an urban-suburban situation (Queensbury-Glens Falls, NY), where I am focused on how I can bring my concerns about simplicity and sustainable living here. Have just had a geothermal heating-cooling system installed and will discontinue using our oil furnace as much as possible. We plan to install solar panels to provide most of our electricity. One goal is to drive my hybrid Prius less often, and use a newly purchased second-hand bike to do many errands, and for recreation. I am an avid supporter of the local farmers and the 100-mile-diet. I regularly get my produce at farmers markets, year-round, and support a community supported agriculture farm (CSA) in the summer. My husband and I are turning our suburban back yard (total acreage, 1/3 acre) into a vegetable garden. I am adding other edibles to it, including raspberries, and blueberries. I have helped plan and carry out step-it-up events. A current concern is the waste management system of this area which collects trash and garbage to go to a burn plant. I hope to help others work to change this system to one of zero waste - that focuses on reducing waste, reusing as much as possible and recycling.

Hi Ruth,
I found you!
Hugs...and welcome to cyber socializing!
