About
I am the founder of Anishinabek of the Gitchi Gami Environmental Programs (AGG), which is a grassroots environmental not-for-profit in my community - Fort William First Nation (Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada).
I was compelled to work on environmental justice issues in the 1990s when I witnessed industrial waste from local pulp and paper mills being dumped on my community. Since then, I've been working to stop the environmental racism that my community faced and continues to face, and other indigenous communities around the world face today. This work has taken me across Canada, to Alaska, to Scandinavia, England, and to Kamchatka in the Russian Far East (check out these pictures!).
I am also very interested in using popular media such as podcasts and syncing online geo-spatial maps of pollution sources with the health effects respective to the substances being emitted. Check out the AGG's podcasts here: http://agg-podcasts.blogspot.com/ and the AGG's map "Fort William First Nation Dumpsites and Adjacent Industry" (PDF).
