About
Greetings!
I'm grateful you've stopped in to learn more about me. I am currently working as an Attorney in Ukiah California. I do a number of miscellaneous civil matters, ranging from estate planning to business and non-profit formation. I've been studying Intentional Community formation and I'm looking to focus more of my practice on meeting the needs of emerging and existing communities.
Outside of the office I play community organizer and activist. I helped co-found the Greater Ukiah Localization Project (GULP), focused on meeting the local needs of the upper Russian River watershed from local sources. This takes the form of working for increased local food production, renewable energy production, improved pubic and human powered transit options, and regional planning that encourages compact human scale development.
I am also the Vice President of the Cloud Forest Institute (CFI) Board of Directors. The central purpose of CFI is to raise funds for rain forest preservation in Ecuador. We also serve as fiscal sponsor for a number of groups in Mendocino County and beyond that are working towards sustainability and social justice in a number of venues.
I also have a deep interest in water issues. My undergraduate degree is in Environmental Science with a focus on soil and water. After law school while completing a Masters in Environmental Studies I interned with the WATER Institute at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. My area of research was the intersection of water quality measures with water rights. I currently serve as a member of the Sewer Ad Hoc committee, appointed by the Ukiah City Council and the Mendocino Board of Supervisors. I am running for a position on the Ukiah Valley Sanitation District this fall.
I also enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and a regular Bikram Yoga practice. I have a deep love for live music, particularly Widespread Panic and have started to exercise my own musical abilities in a number of vocal outlets.
I am keenly interested in the need to raise human consciousness are a predicate for environmental health. I'm a student of Zen Buddhism and a number of esoteric and metaphysical traditions. I find great joy in discussing these topics with people and increasing mindfulness about what we put into and out of our physical form.
I am excited to connect with many of you Wise Earthers.
Be well,
Cliff
