About

I am a 46 year old student at the Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. I am studying Environmental Leadership (M.A. program). I have been vegan since 2007, after reading Gray Francione's book "Introduction to Animal Rights" where I realized that in order to be a true animal rights activist and true environmentalist, I needed to stop using and exploiting animals in any way.  My firm belief is that, as long as there is any form of violence which includes any kind of killings and slaughter, there cannot be peace. If we assign intrinsic right to life to all sentient beings,  if we do not look at human beings as being superior - being environmentalists and animal rights advocates especially) - why is it that we still consume animal products which production is the result of immense suffering and torture and violence? If we are indeed interconnected, and this world is a scared place that needs to be regarded with respect and caring, does that not leave us with the responsibility to treat it with care, respect and with the need to abstain from any contribution to any suffering and pain, from any killing?
