We're learning here to handle complexity?

Hi Charley - welcome to the systems group! James |
|
Welcome Ryvre!

When I post a link I always set it to open in a new window. A message pops up saying that some html was stripped out for security and then the link replaces the current page, which I'd hoped to avoid. Does that make sense?

Have suggested a new area of focus "whole systems" http://www.wiserearth.org/article/dd448711ad63e279d3c4725518bb0e46/new/1/group/aof_suggestions

Walter does your browser try to display the ppt file? If so try saving to disk instead and then open in powerpoint or equivalent.

Welcome Walter - will be great to have your input!

Welcome Joshua!

Yes thanks Honore, safari on a mac. I understand this is a mac problem and have cut down my group memberships (to 13) to fit the size of the pull down window.
Please could we have a little time-saving thing on the messages page so when I click to say I've read them (on email) I don't have to click again to say "yeah I know this will also mark old messages as read". I know each click doesn't take long but when you get told the same little thing hundreds of times it adds up. Maybe a little tick-box option in that window offering "don't remind me again"?
Could groups have an editable standard invite message (rather than having to edit each invite) and could we invite a bunch of people at a time (rather than just the one) please?
I've also found JP's glitch of being unable to add existing groups as a connection to my groups. So my new systems group for example appears to have no related groups even though there are a bunch on wiserearth. Great that you're onto this.

More stuff for discussion: This year's work for nato, Seven Policy Switches for Global Security A wiserearth 'solution' illustrating how far we are from getting a grip of things, Let's try forward gear! An active group, allied with ZERI, discussing how to get unstuck from solutions-as-usual, Fixing systems not symptoms Some from this group have already joined the new 'systems' group but everyone is welcome. Please take part with your ideas and involvement! |
|
Anyone interested is welcome to join the continuing discussion about growth in the 'Fixing systems not symptoms' group at Growth-Centric System Needing Change.

Yes we need more pioneers showing what forward gear means locally and a few pioneers working globally - let's go for it Cliff! |

Welcome Tom!

A great resource - should be made public rather than restricted to the 4 members of this group - shouldn't it?
The world isn't stuck because of a lack of tools and technologies. It's stuck because of a "we know the answers" focus on tools and technologies. The real answer is not out there with the technologies, but in here with our stuck habits of thought. |

Unputdownable. Expect the characters to grab you from the start and drag you into this epic battle of wills. You'll care about what happens next as much as they do and you won't be able to help yourself wanting to shout a warning or lend a hand. You'll feel the intensity of mass co-operation and wonder why people cannot unite so effectively today.
Or, after reading this book, perhaps we can? |

I agree this sounds very important. Please could you help me find the idea content on your site? On the first couple of visits I only found the marketing. Maybe there are papers, presentations or videos about global paradigm/system change by your members that could be posted to this group. I bet there's some really helpful stuff tucked away that would be really interesting for us all to see.

Very perceptive comments Greg, thanks. Your suggestion that 'the 8th switch is us' is my favourite of all possibilities I can imagine.

Michael I'm happy to act like a steward but not to be called one - editor works for me, if possible please. Deborah, best of luck with the application! If I write something about 7 switches and the systems group how long should it be? |

I struggle a bit with the chatterbox. Window is small and can't be resized. Needs to be kept full width on page to avoid cutting off comments. Very hard to read old comments; the cursor doesn't stay put but jumps after a few seconds back to the latest comment. Only holds a few days' comments; old comments vanish and can't be saved or retrieved. People often start conversations that I'd like to use to start a new discussion in the discussion area but comments cannot be selected easily outside the small chatterbox window (text doesn't scroll for selection). When copied, comments don't transfer well to a discussion; photos get added in, formatting is wonky and can't be changed. The first-copied comment ends up in a narrow strip down the LHS.
How about having a 'start discussion' link that transfers selected comments to a new discussion topic please? And a resizable window that keeps perhaps 30 comments rather than 10?
Thanks
James
