About
I am a man a poet an artist semiretired a former and current anti-war activist consience objector going back to the korean war. Was the only member of colorado college in 1958 to refuse to sign a loyalty oath. Colorado college was a land grant college and as such had compulsory R.O.T.C. and was told that I could stay in college if I cleaned all the windows in the gym, but refused and was told to take a year off. Active in the New England C.N.V.A. Active with the quakers in trying to prevent launching of nuclear subs. Since I was 12 years old after seeing a close relative lied to by the unamerican activities committe which resulted in the sucide of a Canadian diplomat. Active in organizing anti-war demonstrations during the vietnam war. droped out owned an all nite coffe shop in Santa Fe in the late 60's owned a restaurant deli. Owned a boutique and head shop.Raised an autistic son. Active in opportunities for the disabled ( I am myself disabled with narcolapsy a sleep-immune difincientcy disorder. And I am a horrible speller.I am interested in starting an organization to end the use of plastic bags in stores. And educate people on the results of plastic on animals in the ocean and on land and the environment. Interested in what other groups are doing in this area. Also interested in educating people about world trade orginizations and there ties to powerful corporations. An example: When countries borrow from the world bank they have to agree to privitize water, a dangerous and growing movement already entrenched in europe and growing here. A massive transfer of wealth is taking place between america and the oil producing countries as well as China and India. This is not necessarily bad but has and will put millions of people out of work ie. the rush to the bottom. As George Soros said in a recent article " I think we have to stop the increased use of coal if we want to bring climate change under control, and find a way to extract carbon from coal- replace dirty coal with clean coal. Without that, and a price system that makes that possible, global warming is terminal". How can we ie the people of the world acomplish this perhaps a more activist process is necessary? How can this come about? I don't have an answer. Perhaps the invironmental groups that Paul Hawken talks about in his book need to work together and define what the goals are and how to move forward.
