@Janine: Actually we heard the community and made the advanced search show on every search result. This is a change from before when you had to find an obscure link to an 'Advanced Search'. We also did an extensive audit of what terms people were searching with when they made an advanced search. Surprise surprise, it was very limited and principly focused on topic, location and to some extent type (of record). So you will see that the new advanced search option is simplified and much easier to use. In addition, we've made it possible to toggle between searching for different types of records direct from the search result - something that was impossible only a month ago. So perhaps you are remembering the bad old days? In any case, do let us know what you think of the new search system. In addition to being (I think) easier to use, the search results come up faster and I think are more accurate. We can and plan to continue tweeking the search algorithm so if you come across something funky in your search results let us know and we'll try and fix it. So far the results of the switch have been that people on average spend a little less time per search but view more pages. We'll see how that changes going forward but it seems like a step in the right direction.
