About
I am currently a student at Santa Fe Community College persuing my bachelor's degree in International Relations with a minor in Cultural Anthropology.
Currently, I am the chapter head of an organization on SFCC campus called the Global Peace Exchange.
"The Global Peace Exchange (GPE) is an initiative to coordinate and expand the service based exchange opportunities for students throughout the world."
Operating out of Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, the GPE functions to foster the construction of a new civilization founded on mutual cooperation and understanding to support development and peace in the world.
"Building upon a network of linked universities, students travel and work on projects with partner universities, NGOs, government agencies, etc. in the various regions of the world, GPE is a network integrating higher education and international development. Similar to the U.S. Peace Corps, GPE would employ relationships with organizations to offer student service opportunities relative to their area of study or expertise. The hope is that students return to their country with a shared understanding of the common human struggle to survive, a moral and ethical education about the issues affecting a particular area or culture and the hope to aid in the building of a new “civilization” of humanity. The best way to achieve these goals among the youth of today lies in service, as actions will always speak louder than words.
This group is for anyone interested in Humanitarian Work, Volunteering, Poverty Relief, HIV/AIDS or making a difference in general through global action and cultural exchange.
The current flagship of GPE running out of FSU and operating under the auspice of the Claude Pepper Center for Intercultural Dialogue, organizes humanitarian trips to developing countries. the trips consist of volunteering in various projects. They might include building an orphanage, working in clinics, giving attention to HIV/AIDS victims, teaching English or giving someone hope.”
GPE Gainesville is currently working with Vision Awake Africa For Development (VAAFD). This summer, we will be sending volunteers to the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana near Accra, continuing to foster the relationship started by our sister chapter at FSU within the camp. During our time there, our volunteers will be working at the Carolyn A. Miller Elementary School as Teachers Assistants, working with students one on one in the classroom and privately as tutors to make sure that the most vulnerable students are not left behind. Our volunteers will also be assisting in the St. Gregory’s Clinic to educate the community about STD’s and other diseases inherent in camp-life through adult education workshops and social awareness programs. Partnered with Orphans Against AIDS and Unite for Sight, we aim to assist in the ever present battle against AIDS and Preventable Blindness. Because we have been lucky enough to live a life without much strife, and to have been given the ability to help those in need.
