About
Greetings.
My name is Triya Liberty. I am here is to discuss the collaboration and design of special type of curriculum: A non-profit educational program whose purpose is to supplement the students' education by providing youth the routine access to outside of the classroom activities. A personalized curriuclum can be designed choosing from activities including ocean kayaking, music and cultural heritage, deep ecology, communication and leadership training, ropes course, eco entrepreneural, local humanitarian/democratic involvment, ocean and river kayaking, wilderness rites, permaculture design and participation, surfing, marine restoration, big brother big sister, art, photography, dance, choreographaphy/theatre, and more. In addition to attending school, the student would design with their caregiver, a routine school week incorporating one or more areas of interest. As the facilitator, we would bring in professionals from these areas.
I am looking for feedback, as I begin with only a vision. A model school week would engage students with such activities as stated above. I need to create a business plan. I just am really dissatisfied with the public education system. Schools teaching reading, writing, arithmatic, science, art, and history, would have a higher ratio of compassionate and skillful leaders if the youth could integrate their own gifts into these scholarly aspects of learning. I believe in freedom from failing social infrastructure. Successful, this vision would mobilize and prepare youth by encouraging their own development of confidence, compassion, leadership, team building, and inner passion.
When youth have acceass to their natural abilities, their gifts begin to come forth. Their minds expand as they are more able to assimilate the knowledge by which they gain from attending class. Their view of the world is changed from fear of the unknown to compassionate action when they are immersed in the ocean, interdependent upon another in a ropes course, and involved in the elderly homes. These experiences are not meant to replace scholarly knowledge. Rather they are meant to supplement and enrich lives.
On average, students in public schools spend 32-35 hours per week in the classroom. Students are tested on what they "know" rather than who they are. I believe a healthy balance of knowledge and character are needed to produce compassion and wisdom within the lives of students.
Currently our public schools are literally institutions designed to harbor specific behaviors and social alignment. The results of our children being in school 35 hours a week plus afterschool boredom suggest signs of anger, depression, anxiety, loss of identity and integrity, lack of interest in community and world affairs, loss of respect for elders and their parents, and other preventable symptoms. Given the circumstances of humanity and the planet, it is time to prepare the youth by engaging them with their own talents. We need courageous youth who have within them the ability to transmute expired belief systems and old paradigms into much needed acts of compassion, tolerance, and a natual perpetuation to create positive change within their own communities.
I need a business plan. I don't want to take the long route by doing it alone. Outside of enrolling others in my inspiration for developing this curriculum, what's next? How much would this cost? What slots of involvment would need to be created?
Please contact me at: triyaliberty@gmail.com even to bring forth any ideas or to comments on filling in any gaps. This is a really big job!
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing ANY of your questions or comments!
Some things about me: I am a small woman with a big vision. I am undereducated, underpaid, and absolutely willing to spearhead this vision with every fiber of my body. This vision has been persistant for almost 10 years, and I am just now bringing it forth. I currently am a mother of a 5 year old amazing girl. Our relationship is a very team oriented one. I believe we will be together doing many of the same projects throughout our lives.
I have found love in my experience of outdoor activities. I've backpacked countless miles, kayaked the Mendocino coast, surfed 52 degree water, canoed rivers, snowboarded steep slopes, bicycled forest terrain, and cleared trails. I've particapted in ceremony of many flavors. I play the didgeridoo and have a natural rhythm in music and dance. I love nature and have a strong spiritual affinity with animals.
Another project within my community is that we are bringing forth "Sheer Beauty," a photographic experience where women are born under large pieces of silk and emerge as radiant beings. It's a phenominal and professional experience.
I recently let go of a job with PG&E in order to pursue freedom outside of a corporate work week. I am passionately involved in conversations around intimacy, egoic awareness, unexplained consciousness, and relationship. I am "working" with other women to bring forth many new and deeply specific models of relationship and inter-relatedness.
I am looking to connect around any of these topics.
Namaste,
Triya
