About
Personally, I have been involved with the "Sustainability Movement" for the past three years. That being said, I have always valued the natural environment. I believe this is a reflection of my childhood years living very close to the Earth in rural Southern Oregon. But it was not until six years ago I made a decision to strive towards meshing my passion with my work. In 2001, I left my ten-year career as a corporate manager to make a transition. I spent the majority of the following three years traveling through SE and Central Asia. Obliviously, this changed my life. My experiences helped me to understand what it meant to be a global citizen, the delicacy of both plant and people, and the need for "a better way". My personal growth flowed into my graduate schoolwork at Antioch University Seattle. In the academic environment I was able to reflect on my personal growth and explore methodologies, concepts, and practices ranging from Industrial Ecology to Living Systems Theory to Conflict resolution. While I completed my Masters I saw the opportunity to mesh the discipline of organizational psychology with the intention of the sustainability movement. Specific, I focus my passion towards the potential of collaboration and collective intelligence, and the power of relationships to create social change. My mental model of achieving sustainability comes from the ability to bridge and integrate natural systems and social systems. We, the global society, can grow so much from the synergy of healthy natural systems, because fundamentally we are all living systems. All healthy living systems share the characteristics of interdependence, self-organization, and diversity. These elements are lacking in many institutions, governments, and communities around the world, but things are changing. I embrace the belief that there is a major transformation towards a wholistic and sustainable society emerging in the world, in fact, it must. In turn, I embrace Wiser Common's vision, and its' goal of being an active space to continue the mission of connecting people from across the globe to face the future together. I look forward to shaping a healthier global community and making many friends along the way.
Professionally, I am an Organizational Psychologist working as a self-employed independent consultant. As an Organization Development (OD) professional I specialize in organizational change, internal and intra-organizational collaboration, and creating healthy and productive organizations. In my work I use a number of different processes and methods; such as collaborative consulting, facilitation, strategic thinking and planning, conflict management, individual coaching, large group interventions, and implementation processes. My approach focuses on the relationships within an organization, or "social system", to tap into a group's collective intelligence and move towards desirable and sustainable outcomes. My "perfect project" would be assisting an organization (non-profit, government, or business)or community in the implementation of sustainable practices and principles that integrate social equity, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity.
