I have been working in social justice and community organizing efforts for more than 25 years. I have been the executive director of the National Network of Abortion Funds for almost 5 years. We are a network of over 100 groups across the U.S. and in Canada that raise money to help low-income women pay for abortions and that advocate for just policies. Most of our member groups are run by committed volunteers -- and we are growing all the time. I have also worked with other grassroots community campaigns, including with a Boston network of women on welfare to increase the safety net for poor women and families. A few other highlights for me: I've worked in community journalism for many years, primarily lesbian/gay and feminist journalism, and also worked on community-led civil rights campaigns (to defend affirmative action in California in the mid-90s) and in the battered women's movement.
