About
I have worked in the environment/sustainability movement since 1993, and for five years as a full time volunteer during university days with Urban Ecology Australia, a non profit community group dedicated to the evolution of ecological cities through both education and example:
UEA was the driving force behind the Halifax EcoCity Project, and the Christie Walk EcoCity Project which has now manifested in Adelaide's CBD.
My interests include ecological city making/the built form, the Ecological Footprint, sustainable food systems, ecological/steady state economics and most of all, how to break the taboo that prevents us from effectively challenging the growth consensus and talking about biophysical limits ie. how to bring about the cultural change.
I am also interested in the work of CASSE (www.steadystate.org) Herman Daly, Bob Costanza, Brian Czech, Rob Dietz, Donella Meadows and the work of the Worldwatch Institute (www.worldwatch.org) and the new economics foundation in the UK www.neweconomics.org, among many others.
My mentors and inspirers include Paul Downton, Cherie Hoyle (Urban Ecology Australia), Richard Register (Ecocity Builders www.ecocitybuilders.org) and Mathis Wackernagel (Global Footprint Network www.footprintnetwork.org).
I also admin the Facebook groups for UEA and the Global Footprint Network :-)
My current work role is as a policy & project officer (Sustainability & Resource Efficiency) with Zero Waste SA, a South Australian government agency set up to promote resource effiicency and recycling www.zerowaste.sa.gov.au
