About

Since 1998, I have served as Core Faculty at Antioch University Seattle within the Center for Creative Change (C3), and presently for a 12-member, university-wide Sustainability Taskforce. Since the mid '80s, I have been thinking, learning, connecting, thinking, doing, learning, doing, learning, writing (you get the idea) on themes of social work and sustainable community innovations (especially around food, water and energy security), integrated resource systems and ecological (permaculture) design, environmental education and leadership, organizational development and community readiness for climate change and peak/post-petroleum futures, international bamboo cultures and sustainable "guild" cooperatives.  Website: DesignTrek.net

At our home, we use solar PV energy, harvest rainwater, grow a little food, brew a little beer, avidly compost, etc. BTW, I am the "Casting Director" for our vermiculture crew -- got worms?  :)

I presently direct Pacific Bamboo Resources, an instuitute devoted to regional / international sustainable development and innovative usage of bamboo resources for social, economic and environmental benefit. I am honored to work with an interdisciplinary International Advisory Board, students and intern volunteers in pursuit of exciting collaborations and benefits.  Join us!  Click here for info. on intern / volunteer opportunities.

I also maintain a gallery of photography, sales from which directly support sustainability projects in Bangladesh, India, USA and elsewhere.  Website: Jonathan Scherch Photography

BTW2, I also serve as a Vice President of the Board for the Northwest Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SERNW).  Our annual conference is scheduled for May 19-22, in Lynwood, WA.  Go here for details and join us if you can!

Cheers.
